Camp Christmas (immersive family holiday fun) / Presented by The Denver Center for the Performing Arts at The Hanger at Stanley Marketplace

All ages welcome with a ticket. Not for the faint of festivity, this over-the-top indoor immersive installation turns the holiday spirit all the way up with mesmerizing displays of decorations that shift time and reality. Camp Christmas is Denver’s newest holiday experience, where yuletide traditions of the past and present get merrily mashed together in a massive 10,000-square-foot wonderland. It’s not just pretty lights and mistletoe. This is where Marie Antoinette commands a Rococo sleigh, where ancient Roman festivals become Santa-fied, and where pink is more than just a color – it’s a place. Come in from the cold with your whole family and get wrapped in the ooey-gooey, odd and sweet rituals that have brought light to the darkness of winter for thousands of years.

Twelfth Night - (early show 6:30pm) / The Denver Center Theatre Company

Hilarious hijinks. Unrequited love. Gender-bending disguises. The struggle is real in this Shakespearean comedy, where the clumsiness of romance is on display in every way. Separated from her twin brother after a shipwreck in Illyria, Viola disguises herself as a man to work in the local household of Duke Orsino. The closer they become, the more Viola gets acquainted with Orsino’s crush, the beautiful noblewoman Olivia. Much to their dismay (and to your delight), the trio is inevitably thrust into a love triangle of mistaken identity and wanton foolishness.

Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical returns to Denver to steal Christmas after a blockbuster debut in 2014. More than 2.5 million theatre-goers across America have been delighted by this heart-warming holiday musical, featuring the hit songs “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” from the original animated TV special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is “two sizes too small,” decides to steal Christmas away from the holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville and helps remind us of the true meaning of the holiday season. Don’t miss what The New York Times calls “AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story.”

The Veil / Sopris Theatre Company at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs
Dec 6 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm

May 1822, rural Ireland. The defrocked Reverend Berkeley arrives at the crumbling former glory of Mount Prospect House to accompany a young woman to England. Seventeen-year-old Hannah is to be married off to a marquis in order to resolve the debts of her mother’s estate. However, compelled by the strange voices that haunt his beautiful young charge and a fascination with the psychic current that pervades the house, Berkeley proposes a séance, the consequences of which are catastrophic. The Veil weaves Ireland’s troubled colonial history into a transfixing story about the search for love, the transcendental, and the circularity of time.

Christmas en Colorado / Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center

Renowned singer-composer Tish Hinojosa has been writing sings about her beloved San Antonio, Texas, she may not have realized that she was writing about Colorado also. A great Christmas story, funny and profound. A family centered musical feast with enough sarcasm and wit to stimulate great Christmas dinner discussions. The play is a story of tradition vs. contemporary commercialism. It is a morality play whose central message is articulated by Los Tres Reyes Chucos, 3 lost barrio actors who implore us to, “Follow the Star!” If they could only find it.

The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world – so when they crash Sunday school and demand parts in the Christmas pageant, the whole town panics. There’s not supposed to be biting or cigar-smoking in Bethlehem, and while these kids have never even heard the Christmas story, they definitely have rewrites! Laughs abound in this funny, touching holiday classic.

The Improvised Shakespeare Company / The Denver Center for the Performing Arts at the Garner Galleria Theatre

Based on one audience suggestion (a title of a play that has never been written), The Improvised Shakespeare Company® creates a fully improvised Shakespearean masterpiece right before your eyes. Nothing has been planned out, rehearsed, or written. All of the dialogue is said for the first time, the characters are created as you watch, and if ever you’re wondering where the story is going…so are they! See the show TimeOut Chicago calls “Staggeringly Brilliant” and “Downright Hilarious!” You’ve never seen the Bard like this before.

The Second City’s Twist Your Dickens / The Aurora Fox Arts Center
Dec 6 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Seth Palmer Harris as Past and Erik Sandvold as Scrooge. Aurora Fox Arts Center. Twist Your Dickens
You asked for it! We delivered! The Fox is thrilled to bring back by popular demand last year’s seasonal satire, The Second City’s Twist Your Dickens! In this madcap send-up of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol,” Scrooge, Tiny Tim and those know-it-all ghosts find themselves hopelessly mixed up in a collection of zany holiday hijinks. With all new sketches and fresh moments of improv inspired by audience suggestions, we can promise this naughty, bawdy and hilarious holiday comedy will have everything you loved about it last year. And then some! Second City alums and veteran Colbert Report writers Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort dreamt up this irreverently funny show lauded by Juliet Wittman of the Denver Westword newspaper as “much funnier than most of what [was] around, [last] year.” We’re confident the same will be true this year, too. Come see it! Again!

The Thanksgiving Play / Curious Theatre Company
Dec 6 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Ah, Thanksgiving, that most American of holidays: when families gather to bask in the bounty of the harvest, football, giant balloons — and a legacy of genocide and violent colonial expansion. Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in this wickedly funny satire as a troupe of terminally “woke” teaching artists trip all over themselves to create a politically correct, yet historically accurate, yet dramatically revolutionary, yet accurately represented and responsibly cast Thanksgiving play for elementary schools…all the while navigating aspirations to be successful actors – but not commercially successful – and overall unproblematic white people.
