Job Description:

Theatre Aspen is seeking a Costume Designer for our Fall Education production, Anastasia.

 

Designers will be responsible for…

●        Providing a costume plot and sketches or representations necessary for execution of costumes and to design, select or approve all accessories.

●        To design, select or coordinate all costumes, including selections from the performer’s personal wardrobe when necessary.

●        Select appropriate costumes from stock, rental/purchase or other resources and coordinate their adaptation for the Production(s).

●        Track and maintain costume budget for production.

●        To oversee the fittings and attend appropriate rehearsals.

●        To approve hairstyles and/or select wigs, hairpieces, mustaches, beards, prosthetics and special make-up.

●        To attend the rehearsals as necessary to design the Production including Tech Rehearsals as agreed upon with Director.

●        To attend Production Meetings as scheduled by the Director and Production Manager

○        Production meetings prior to tech held virtually

●        To assist in striking, laundering, & restocking costumes as necessary in coordination with Education & Production staff.  

○        Costumes pulled but unused in the production will be struck by the designer prior to their departure

○        A clear and detailed laundry, strike, and restock plan will be provided for all costumes used in the production since designer will not be present for strike

 

Venues:

The District Theatre at Aspen Elementary School

 

SCHEDULE

Production meetings virtually at various times/dates as soon as the designer is hired.

First Visit: Arrival morning of October 7th, departure October 11th or 12th. First week consists of measurements, pulling from costume stock, compiling purchase list, and compiling list of base costume pieces/undergarments actors will need to provide.

Between visits purchases may be completed in person near designer’s base location if appropriate

Second Visit: Arrival November 4th or 5th, departure November 12th or 13th. Second week consists of final fittings and alterations, organization of costume racks, teaching actors about costume functionality/changes, restocking of unused pieces, and strike plan organization.

 

 

Job Type & Compensation:

Job Type: Contract

Compensation: $1,500 Design Fee

Travel stipend available depending on length of commute; housing can be provided if required. Preference will be given to designers within driving distance of Aspen, Colorado.
